Brain Tumor Parent with Adrianna Stephenson & Shawn Wells
Adrianna Stephenson is a brain tumor parent, ketogenic diet advocate, and real food crusader. Her now 5 year old son, Parker, is a brain tumor survivor. At the age of 19 months, Adrianna noticed her son being a bit more wobbly on his toes and having trouble gripping with his right hand. Her mama instinct told her, something is not right. She took Parker to his pediatrician who then recommended they go see a neurologist. It was then that her life as she knew it, would change forever. After being diagnosed with a very large brain tumor, Adrianna and her son Parker were helpless at the hands of the doctors. They performed surgery, and began chemotherapy. Adrianna started researching to find out why this had happened to her son and how she could help him heal, from home. She came across the ketogenic diet and thought to herself, why not. After 3 months of being on the ketogenic diet, coupled with chemotherapy, Parker's tumor was down 30 percent! She then knew that the ultimate power of healing her son was going to be the food.Feeding a young child a specific diet sounds difficult. Kids are picky eaters, if they even eat much at all. But, for Adrianna and Parker, making the switch to keto was not that difficult. She talks with us about what kinds of foods she prepares for him, along with what the long-term plan is for her son Parker. At Parker's last MRI there was no evidence of disease and he is currently thriving on a ketogenic diet!Shawn Wells is a registered dietician, certified sports nutritionist, and has been implementing keto in his own life for over 20 years. He and Adrianna talk about how the ketogenic diet works in situations like Parker's.
